More Information

Itinerary: Days 1-6 +

DAY 1 – LONDON (SOUTHAMPTON), UNITED KINGDOM

Take a trip up to London and get a bird’s eye view of the city from the London Eye. See sights like Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Piccadilly. Stroll along Lower Regent Street or visit the British Museum.

DAY 2 – AT SEA, INTERNATIONAL WATERS

DAY 3 – EDINBURGH (NEWHAVEN), UNITED KINGDOM

Savor the old town’s marvelous Georgian and Victorian architecture and impressive Edinburgh Castle, high on its volcanic crag with a fabulous view. Stroll along the medieval Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse to see the abbey and Queen Mary’s chambers. Visit St. Giles’ Cathedral where John Knox once preached.

Castle atop rocky hill with a fortified stone wall, overlooking a lush green park.

DAY 4 – ABERDEEN, UNITED KINGDOM

Treasure dazzling Aberdeen, where the handsome granite buildings literally sparkle due to the prominence of mica in the locally quarried stone. As you explore the compact Old Town, admire the ornate spires of the 1837 Marischal College and pause at the 17th-century Mercat Cross, which is adorned with ten medallions symbolizing the Stuart monarchs. In marvelous St. Machar’s Cathedral, gaze at the timbered ceiling to appreciate the colorful heraldic symbols and, in fascinating Provost Skene’s House, wander medieval rooms appointed with period pieces. Further afield, numerous fairytale castles dot the landscape, including the British royal family’s exquisite Balmoral Castle.

DAY 5 – KIRKWALL (ORKNEY ISLANDS), UNITED KINGDOM

This starkly beautiful island holds many ancient treasures like the enigmatic Standing Stones of Stenness and the 5,000-year-old village of Skara Brae, amazingly discovered with furniture and indoor drains preserved. Visit the imposing trio of St. Magnus Cathedral, the nearby ruins of the Earl’s Palace, and the earlier Bishop’s Palace.

DAY 6 – STORNOWAY (HEBRIDES), UNITED KINGDOM

The unspoiled Outer Hebrides is a world of its own, separated from mainland Scotland by more than water. The language is Gaelic, the attitude heavily self-sufficient and the wildlife uncommon. The capital of the Outer Hebrides, Stornoway is tucked into a beautiful natural harbor on Lewis Island, which the Vikings repeatedly invaded. While renowned as a center for Harris Tweed, Stornoway is also home to the Neo-Gothic Lews Castle, the An Lanntair arts center and a multitude of northern birds such as the Arctic skua, golden eagle and corncrake.

Itinerary: Days 7-11 +

DAY 7 – KILLYBEGS, IRELAND

Donegal’s scenic fishing village, Killybegs is situated in a region marked by natural beauty and rich in Celtic heritage. Discover thatched Irish cottages and picturesque Gaeltacht villages, not to mention super fresh seafood and beautiful stretches of coastline with Blue Flag beaches. Get a sense of the town’s history and see the world’s largest hand-knotted loom at the former factory of Donegal Carpets, now known as Killybegs International Carpet Making & Fishing Centre. Nature lovers will want to head to hiking trails of dramatic Slieve League Mountains just west of Killybegs – those up for the adventure will be rewarded with stunning views of Donegal Bay, local wildlife and some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

DAY 8 – BELFAST, IRELAND

Delight in this vibrant city of ornate Victorian and Edwardian architecture, gracious gardens and friendly pubs. Thrill to the natural phenomenon of the Giants’ Causeway, a stunning geological anomaly of tightly packed, uneven basalt columns disappearing into the sea, and the enigmatic ruins of Grey Abbey.

DAY 9 – DUBLIN (DUN LAOGHAIRE), IRELAND

Considering it’s the birthplace of some of the world’s greatest literary figures – Beckett, Joyce, Shaw, Wilde, Yeats – you can’t help but wonder what it is about Dublin that so inspires. Exploring the city, you find answers. It’s the strong sense of community embodied in its pub culture, in the stunning churches seemingly on every corner, and in the sprawling parks where residents gather to commune with nature. It’s also the history preserved in the ancient books of Trinity College’s Old Library and in the story of Guinness and his iconic beer. Meanwhile, the charming seaside town of Dún Laoghaire possesses its own sense of timeless appeal, from the James Joyce Tower and Museum to the National Maritime Museum of Ireland.

Temple Bar street in Dublin city center, Ireland

DAY 10 – CORK (COBH), IRELAND

Cheerful Cork sprawls about the River Lee in one of Ireland’s most stunning settings. Bridges crisscross the city leading to landmarks like St. Anne’s Church and the Old City Gaol, where you’ll see the 19th century prisoners’ graffiti. Make time to kiss the Blarney Stone in Blarney Castle.

DAY 11 – DARTMOUTH, UNITED KINGDOM

While Agatha Christie summered in Dartmouth, you’ll find nothing in this lovely town to suggest that it inspired the sinister plots of her books. What you will find is a picturesque setting that provided the perfect escape from the toils of being the world’s best-selling novelist. Visit ancient castles or art deco estates awash in wildflowers and framed by lush green pastures. Explore the pristine coves of the River Dart estuary, lined with quaint cottages and bobbing sailboats. The waterfront is so picturesque that you may wonder if any Pilgrims were tempted to unload here when the Mayflower pulled in for repairs en route to the New World.

DAY 12 – LONDON (SOUTHAMPTON), UNITED KINGDOM
