DAY 2 – PROVENCE (MARSEILLE), FRANCE

See the sights and enjoy the views of historic old Marseille and visit the charming fishing port of Cassis. DAY 3 – CINQUE TERRE (LA SPEZIA), ITALY

Head out of town and discover the five stunning, colorful towns clinging to the cliffs along the coast. Or visit intriguing Portovenere, another colorful town rising above one end of La Spezia’s harbor with breathtaking views and the lovely Church of San Pietro.

DAY 4 – ROME (CIVITAVECCHIA), ITALY

Or enjoy a drive through the lush farmlands of the Roman countryside to lovely medieval Castelgandolfo.

DAY 5 – SORRENTO / CAPRI, ITALY

DAY 6 – MESSINA (SICILY), ITALY

Visit beautiful Taormina and marvel at its famous Greek theater and the stunning view of Mount Etna. Explore lovely medieval Messina with its historic churches and the cathedral where it is rumored Richard the Lionheart worshipped in 1190. Or discover ancient Tyndaris, founded in 396 B.C., with its fine mosaics, Roman baths and impressive theater overlooking the sea.

DAY 7 – IGOUMENITSA, GREECE

An undiscovered gem on the northwest coast of Greece, Igoumenitsa stands on the site of a settlement dating to the 4th century BC, and several ancient sites are located nearby. Founded in 31 BC, the archaeological site Nikopolis was once a thriving capital built by the Roman emperor Octavian to commemorate his victory over Anthony and Cleopatra. You can also visit Meteora with its spectacular 15th century monasteries built into seemingly inaccessible sandstone peaks.

DAY 8 – BAR, MONTENEGRO

Stroll down Bar’s palm-lined waterfront promenade past King?Nikola’s Palace, now a charming regional museum showcasing scenic gardens, then venture to the Old Town of Stari Bar perched on the hillside. The town manifests centuries of history in Byzantine fortifications, a remarkable Ottoman aqueduct and a clocktower that stands as a symbol of the city. Nearby is Bar’s most famous resident, a 2,000-year-old olive tree believed to be the oldest in Europe. Just outside of Bar, spanning the border of Montenegro and Albania, Lake Skadar offers boating and kayaking expeditions as well as tastings at local wineries. A rigorous hike up Mount Rumija rewards with sweeping panoramas.
