The ship was formally unveiled to the world at an event in Sydney by Glen Moroney, Founder and Chairman of Scenic Group. The idea for the Scenic Ikon came about around three and a half years ago.

Construction of the yacht is already well underway. Commenced in February 2025. The 26,500 gross tonne vessel has an Ice Class strengthened hull, Class 1-A Super. The yacht will spend eight months of the year operating in the Mediterranean. Then, she’ll set sail in Antarctica in the Northern Winter.

The ship will come in at about 205 meters in length and will host up to 270 guests. The Scenic Ikon is 37 metres longer than its predecessors – the Scenic Eclipse I which was launched in 2019, and the Scenic Eclipse II which launched in 2023. Both have a capacity of 228 guests.

Activities & Experiences:

The Scenic Ikon will feature a lot of similarities with the Eclipse I and II. This includes Airbus H130-T2 helicopters, a newly constructed nine-guest Triton AVA submersible (Scenic Neptune III), zodiacs, sea bobs, kayaks, paddle boards and more. The verandah suites are reported to range from 34 square metres to 250 square metres – as is the case with the Ikon Owners Penthouse. The Scenic Ikon will also feature a two-level wellness facility and a total of nine vitality pools.

The new project will offer guests “elevated Ikon experiences” with new Active Discovery adventures, and more, according to Jason Flesher, Director of Discovery Operations for Scenic Group. Flesher also added that the Scenic Ikon will also have a new helicopter waiting lounge.

The Scenic Ikon aims to continue to set the benchmark for ocean cruising. Especially when it comes to the culinary experiences onboard. The ship will have a total of 15 dining venues, which will include a new all-day pizza bar called Crustory.

Completion of the Scenic Ikon is expected in late 2027. The ship’s inaugural season (March 2029) will see the Discovery Yacht traverse 110 ports, 21 countries, and 26 new destinations.

“Scenic Ikon is a big step up for Scenic Group,” Moroney added. “It’s something that we’re very proud of and we’re really looking forward to putting it in the water.”

The Mediterranean and Aegean Sea cruise Itineraries range between 10 to 15 days. Connecting to key destinations such as Italy, the French Riviera, the Greek Islands, Turkey, and the Amalfi Coast. Meanwhile, the Antarctic voyages will range from 13 to 16 days. Multiple of these sailings in the Mediterranean and Antarctica will offer travellers back-to-back cruise combinations.
